We have completed our record of St Christopher’s Church Pott Shrigley and are continuing to work at Christ Church Macclesfield.  The church is now disused and in the hands of the Churches Conservation Trust, so we expect to be cold, but the church is of immense local and national importance, as it was founded in 1775 by Charles Roe to enable the evangelical curate, David Simpson, to have the pulpit that the Old Church, St Michael’s, was not keen to allow him.  It was constructed using iron supports for the balcony and the design was centred on a massive three-decker pulpit (no longer in situ), so that Simpson, and on several occasions John Wesley, could be seen and heard by congregations of up to one thousand. There is fine glass, together with major memorials, box pews; there are lots of other artefacts to examine.  We are liaising with Roe-naissance, who are trying to find uses for the building, as well as the Churches Conservation Trust.
